ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT INFORMATION
Office Visits
Office visits are arranged at intervals ranging from 3 and 12 weeks. The time between visits is based on your stage of treatment and the type of appliance you are wearing. Brace adjustments are usually 4 to 6 weeks apart and removable retainer type appliances are adjusted every 8 to 12 weeks. Appointments can be arranged in the early mornings or evenings for your convenience. A typical adjustment appointment is 10-15 minutes. When your treatment is complete, appointments continue for 2 years at decreasing frequency, eventually reaching 6 month intervals.

Insurance and Fees
Fees are based on the time involved and the appliance selected for completing an orthodontic correction. Our fees include all steps of the process including the preparation and examination of tooth models, x-rays, and photos of the teeth and jaws, the placement and adjustment of braces and or removable appliances, the delivery and placement of retainers, and the monitoring of the retainers. The fees for tooth removal for orthodontic purposes or other surgical or dental care are not included in the fees for orthodontic correction.
Payment of orthodontic fees is made with an initial deposit followed by a series of monthly installments by cheque or major credit card until the balance is retired. There are no taxes or interest charged in addition to the fees.
Some patients are fortunate enough to have insurance, which will reimburse them for a portion of their orthodontic fees. We will be happy to explain how families can take advantage of their insurance benefits and complete all forms necessary to begin the reimbursement process for you. Most insurance plans require an estimate of the fees prior to the initiation of treatment. We can provide you with an estimate with no obligation.

When to Begin Orthodontic Treatment
Early orthodontic treatment is valuable for children whose malocclusion is contributing to an uneven growth and development of their jaws. The uneven growth can be seen in the lower jaw growing to the left or right or when the lower front teeth are ahead or well behind the upper front teeth. Usually, a removable retainer type device is effective in correcting a number of the conditions, which lead to this uneven growth. When young patients have severe crowding amongst their new permanent teeth, sometimes the removal of baby teeth to create space is suggested. Another condition that may be addressed in younger patients is the presence of severely tipped upper front teeth. When these teeth are forward enough to be unprotected by the lips, then treatment to move the teeth inward can be beneficial to reduce the possibility of these teeth being traumatized. Finally, patients who are unable to stop finger and thumb sucking habits by the time their permanent teeth have begun to grow in should be evaluated to assess the benefits of treating their habit with a wire and smooth roller system, These systems can be an effective way to reduce harmful thumb and finger habits. An examination of the teeth at 7 years of age is usually suggested to see if any of these early treatment conditions exist.
